Is this a breach of contract on the dealer's part?

I purchased a Ram 1500 Big Horn last February (2013). This particular model does not come with the reverse camera installed and I asked the salesperson if it were possible to add the factory camera to the vehicle after the purchase and he stated that it was indeed possible. While in the finance manager's office, he presented a form stating that they would install the camera as soon as it became available, as part of the agreement packet. About 1 /12 weeks later, I got a call from the salesperson, saying that the camera was in and ready for install. When I arrived at the dealership, they attempted to install an aftermarket backup camera system that would render my rear view mirror mounted microphone and in-vehicle voice command system inoperative. I told them that that was not the camera that we agreed upon in the sales agreement and stopped them from working on the vehicle.

I spoke once again with the salesperson and informed him once again that I didn't want any other system but the factory system installed in the vehicle and he stated that he would contact the service department to make sure that they ordered the correct part. He informed me that the camera would arrive within two weeks and would take very little time to install since it was a plug and play system. I waited for 3 weeks and received no call from him, prompting me to call him to ask what the situation was. He said he didn't hear from the service department and that he would call me right back. He never did. The next day, I called again and he said the there was a delay and that the part would be in another two weeks. Once again, no call and no part. I then called the sales manager and was told that the part was on order and would be in shortly. I hung up with him and called the parts department and was told that that part was not able to be installed on my vehicle. So now I have two different answers to the same question.

I let a couple of months pass and called again. Still, the answer was "waiting on the part". My patience worn thin with the run around, I decided to call the Ram customer care line yesterday and explain the situation. The customer care representative then called the dealership and had the two of us on conference call. The sales manager had been replaced and mentioned that the part was on back order and would not be available anytime soon. I informed him that it's been well over a year that I've been waiting for it and that his answer was the 3rd different answer to my single question. He then offered his apologies and a refund for the price of the camera. The camera was figured into the contracted price of the vehicle and in my opinion, would be cause for an entirely new contract to be drawn up, correct?

Would this be breach of contract on their part since they didn't uphold their end of the contract? What would be my options if it were? Would it be possible for me to recoup the money I've spent on this vehicle and return it to them in order to get the vehicle I wanted in the first place?

You waited a year, and now you've reached this impasse.
I don't see your legal theory as being successful.
I haven't read your contract, you might want to thoroughly read it.
This is probably addressed, so if you're going this route, knowing your contract is extremely important.
You might want to speak with a couple local attorneys.
You can't pursue any action against a dealership backed by Chrysler alone, and small claims isn't the proper forum for complex legal matters, just money.

Your easiest option might be to prevail upon their sense of reason, customer loyalty, and equity to negotiate an agreement to purchase a new truck discounted to satisfy you. Try meeting them halfway to make it easier on both of you.

They are refunding the money for the part that never arrived.

If you want an upgrade, then take the truck you've got now and trade it in on a new and improved model.

I really wouldn't expect more than that. The truck salesman is not the first to let his alligator mouth overshoot his hummingbird butt and promise more than could be delivered.
