Is this considered discrimination at work?

I work for a hotel that operates near a Native American Tribe, of which I am enrolled. There was a situation in which a couple left the hotel without paying having checked in on a bad credit card. My manager had assumed they were part of the Native American Tribe, (because they had not informed anyone that they were in fact Native American.)

The day they ran out, my manager turns to me and proceeds to complain. And I quote "You should know (My name here) that all them (Native Tribe's name here) are just a bunch of thieves....etc... and since you'll be working tonight alone (I work night audit 12 am - 8 am) I'll come sit with you because they may come back to hurt you. I know they all carry knives, and they look for any reason to fight...etc... it's because of the drugs you know. I know you know what I mean, all they do is lie to your face and stab you in the back."

Like I said, I'm enrolled in the Native American Tribe she was referring to, and I know she knows because she had asked me in passing on a previous date. I'm not looking for anykind of legal action, I just want to discuss with her that I didn't like the fact she grouped a whole nation into a horrible description based on the actions of two people who may or may not have been Native American. I was wondering Is their laws to prevent statements like that in the workplace?

A single statement is not enough for a discrimination claim. If it keeps up, you might be able to take action but if it doesn't repeat itself, you can't make a claim out of it.

What you can and should do, though, is report the statement to HR, corporate headquarters, or both.
