i rented a cabin in eliot maine with a verbal contract for 850 a month year round,i have been here since april first never late on payments. on the first of october i went to pay the rent and the landlord told me that i had to move by the fifteenth of this month because i had my 7 year old daughter move in with me when school started in our town.land lord told me she doesnt have occupant permits for winter rental and that she didnt want to be responsible for childs saftey so the child has to go or we both have to go.and she already has someone ready to move in with no children on the 15th is that fair or even legal and i live payday to payday i have no money to move

Check the lanldord/tenant laws in your state to find out how long your landlord has to give you to move out of the property and for what reasons.

In the absence of a written lease, the tenant is assumed to be a month to month renter. To end this lease in Maine, either party must be given at least 30 days notice prior to the day the rent is due to vacate the premises. No reason for vacating need be given (which is why many landlords and tenants seem to favor month to month tenancies).

In other words, if your landlord had notified you on September 30th that they were ending the lease, you would have until the end of October to find another place to rent and to move.

This will give you a bit more time to hopefully find another place to live.
