I want to make clear first I have done nothing wrong, I'm just feeling harassed and humiliated from our new "rule" and I want to know if I can do anything about it.
I work for a popular retail company that has major theft. Been out for a while regarding a family emergency and when I come back there are "many" new rules at our store, and many I don't agree with 100%(people no longer have their cash draws counted at the end of their shift due to labor hours being cut for our upcoming holiday season and being searched before you leave the building which is humiliating).
As I was leaving work our LP guy (they are really only door men that check receipts and watch the store camera) asked me how long I have been gone and I told him a couple weeks, then he said "You know a lot has change when you left right?" I'm like yeah new managers and some new rules, like no one from other departments are aloud behind the counters and what not, then he said "well you know you have to be searched now too? There is a lot of theft and they found a stolen item in warehouse and only the box of it was left so now they have to search people." (which is ridicules I understand the point but not the humility, unless truly accused. So now every single employee has to be accused and search before proven innocent is outrages. Also we couldn't be the thief because we were gone in that time period. And besides no one is allowed back there unless you work in the warehouse. I mean really... come on?)
He asked me and my fiancé (who works there too) to empty our pockets and then lift "his" pants legs, he didn't ask me to do mine which I find suspicious why only my fiance and why didn;t he make sure to check mine? He said, "please don't take offence to it he has to do it too all employees" I was upset and so was my fiancé asked him "why didn't you search me earlier when I left the building and the other three employees that left too?" he stated that he must have missed it and to tell him we have to have him search us if not he can get in trouble. Which I'm starting to wonder if that was a lie because me and my fiancé think he must be picking and choosing who to search. I don't agree with this new rule at all because this is done in front of the store in front of customers and it's humiliating. Because I have done nothing wrong from the get go. We even called HR regarding this and they said they opened a case for my fiancé I'm considering doing the same too. My fiancé even stated he will get a lawyer if nothing is done about it, because we were falsely accused of doing nothing at all. I believe our GM is the one who enforced this new rule too. Before this they had to search our purses and and all bags, which I understand that but going this far, I don't. I've been under a lot of stress with this company ( the hours the less people the more work load they put on ur shoulders and so on) and now it's going too far I want to know if there is anything I can do?
