I was at the beach (around 2 am - it was closed) with my friends and we were swimming while we saw a person with a flashlight approach us. We did not know if this person was a cop or just a parent or neighbour, but we swam across the lake. Our cellphones and cameras were left on the beach, and the policeman took it. On the camera was a picture of me holding a can of beer. There are no pictures of consuming this.
First, are they allowed to look at the camera, since it is abandoned property? Second, can they charge me with MIP (they have no proof of consumation) or having an opened container?
I am seeing this officer later tonight (he called my parents at night to notify them I was gone - they were unaware of this), but I would like to know what the possible consequences are.
