I was contacted on 9/21/10, by a collection agency about a debt. After talking with the representative, we discussed payment arrangements. I offered the representative a payment of $100.00 on 9/24/10, which has been paid, and a follow-up payment of $175.00 on 10/01/10. The representative said that she would have to place me on hold and talk to a manager. After a few minutes, the representative came back and said that the arrangement was good. Today, 9/24/10, after the payment has been made, I received a call from a "manager", stating now that I have until 9/30/10, to pay the $175.00 or otherwise face possible wage garnishment. I informed the "manager" that an arrangement was already made, the "manager" then told me that it was another manager that said it was okay for the arrangement, not him. So, what are my options?

You may have reactivated a debt that was invalidated by the statute of limitations. In other parlance, you could have opened a can of "whupass" on yourself. There are many discussions of this on this board and all over the 'net.

You didn't have to pay a dime. You can balk, and they'll hound you forever. They can't attach your wages, unless they take you to court.

The easiest thing to do (if $175 is all you owe), is borrow the money and pay them. If it were me, I wouldn't give them another dime. I'd change my telephone number and be done with them.

I hope you didn't make the first payment using your debit card or your bank account. If you did, look for them to drain it by the 30th!!!
  :yikes:

These people are crooks. They lie to steal your money. You might want to close your bank account, ASAP, and open a NEW one at another bank!
