Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft jail time for a class b misdemeanor? First offense?

Today I get a citation for a class b misdemeaor for taking an item worth $65 from the store with out paying. I was really cooperative and nice with the employee who stopped me and it was my first and last offense! I have paid my civil demand all ready and have a clean record, except for minor traffic tickets. I'm really worried about jail time, I'll pay whatever fine no issue.

You dont get to barter. That is what your Attorney is for. Jail for a first offense is not likey to happen. However a conviction will appear on your record. You need to talk to your Attorney and see if Diversion is an option in your case

do you know how one goes about getting a lawyer without having a lot of money? Like a public offender?

When you appear in court plead not guilty and request Public Defender

but I was guilty and I signed some paper at the store saying I was??

Pleading not guilty just buys you time to talk to a Lawyer. If you plead guilty Judge will sentence you and you get whatever Judge wants no plea deal.

... wouldn't that be lying and get me in more trouble? I have until november 5th and plan on talking to someone tomorrow.
does it help that I have a job and go to school?

Its not a lie its a legal manuver. Don't panic. Do as you were told. Having a job and going to school does not impact your guilt or innocence
