Hi,
I have a quesiton, I hope someone can help me.
Recently some of the roles in my job description (jd)have been roles large enough to sustance on their own, causing the need for new positions created. Since then, my supervisor and HR director have been working on changing my current position's jd, understandable. In this change, they have decided that my position should be an Admin Asst, rather than what it currently is a Coordinator. Along with this change my status changes - I'm not longer salary, but hourly. Also, from what my supervisor states, that my pay too! Can this BE!? Wouldn't that be a demotion, altogeter? It would be at least a $3 - $4 decrease in PAY!!! There is NO way I can afford a paycut like that. Wouldn't it be best to keep my pay, and worse case say my pay is frozen until the rest of the market value is up or something?

Please help? Advise please. Because in this economy right now, I haven't found another job that pays what I make now.

Truly confused...and a bit scared

No one on a message board can say what would be "best" since we do not know all the factors involved in the decision - and neither do you.

What I can tell you is that pay decreases are not illegal as long as they do not take you below the higher of state or Federal minimum wage, and as long as you are notified of the change before you work any hours at the lower rate.

There is also no law mandating how or even whether your pay is amended due to changes in job duties.
