This may get confusing but here goes.
I recently sold a pair of jet skis to a buyer and I sold the jet skis "as is" for $4500 with trailer. I signed over the titles and we both signed a bill of sale. My copy of Bill of sale is lost and can't be found.

The person who bought my jet skis later sold them to another gentlemen and now the second buyer has sent me a certified letter wanting a refund for his payment. I never made a sale with this second buyer and now he wants me to refund $4500 to him!

Apparently the skis do not run now and have engine problems. The second buyer claims that the person he bought them from (the guy I sold to) was my sellers agent and that he was screwed in the deal and wants a refund from me! I sold the skis to the first buyer, we made no agreement to have him sell the skis for me!

Does he have any legal recourse against me? I have lost my Bill of sale and don't have proof of sale to the person who bought from me. The skis were in running condition when I sold to the first buyer.

Please advise.

None that I can see, if things are as you indicated. If he has a right of recourse, its against the person who sold them to him.

The bill of sale is not at dispute.

The benefit for you is that the second buyer has no bill of sale from you.

His problem isn't your problem.

This does not mean that he can't sue you.
If he is really dumb then he just may try, but it won't go anywhere.
Ignore his letters. Go to court if you are served papers. He will defeat himself before you even have to say a word.
