Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft JI student. don't know what to expect

Wished to steal from the big shop in NY the goods for the sum 500$ today. Removing security tags, I have damaged the goods. In a consequence I have changed my mind and have left the goods on a shelf. At an exit I was stopped, I did not render resistance and have confessed. I have signed papers in which it was told about the sum of the spoilt goods and that I have no permission to enter this store. Then I have spent 3 hours while found out my person in an public jail. I was fingerprinted, photographed and held in a cell for several hours. I was released and issued a DAT with the code 165.40 on it. I am to appear in court at September, 29, but my J1 visa comes to an end on September, 31st.
This is the first time I have ever been arrested in my life. I'm 22.
I have no money for the attorney.. So, what are the possible variants? Will be there any fines? Jail?

This could negatively impact your J1 Visa. You should at consult with an Attorney familar with both criminal an dimmigration law. Many grant free consultations. Fines and what not are least of your problems at this point. When you talk to an Attorney ask if Diversion is availalbe in your case
