My jurisdiction is: Texas

I recently retired after 30 years as a manager. I have extensive training and experience in my field, as well as a graduate degree that is related to my career field. I have received numerous high job evaluation ratings and performance awards. I have senior company executives as my references.

I have decided to seek employment with the federal government and begin a second career--I am currently 53 years old. I have submitted more than a dozen applications for federal positions within my local area. Although, I met qualifications for the vacancy announcments, to include my veteran's preference, I have never been called for an interview (meanwhile, each position has been filled). Out of curiosity, I applied for jobs at the lowest entry level just to see if I would get a response, but nothing.

I am beginning to suspect there is age discrimination in play. I don't know what steps to take at this stage. Can someone give me suggestions on how I should proceed with trying to get to the bottom of this? Thanks in advance for some guidance. JK

Yes, it is possible that there is age discrimination in play.

It's also possible that for every opening they had several hundred candidates.

Remember, the economy is tanking and there are quite a lot of experienced, qualified people looking for work.

Bottom line; if you're not even being called for interviews, you'll never prove it's age discrimination.

Believe me, I am 51 and go through the same thing. But neither of us will ever prove a thing.

You have no proof whatsoever of any age discrimination. There are alot of people out of work right now. My dad is 60 and cannot find a job making more than 30k a year right now. Discrimination? Maybe but can he or you prove it?
