My positon/job was recently eliminated and I was told this was done to boost organizational efficiency through reduced layers of management and greater span of control. I was given 2 weeks notice and a decent severence package and was told this had nothing to do with my job performance. As the announcements have started coming out many of the moves make little sense (at least to me). While many folks have been displaced, there seems to be an equal if not greater number of reappointments, demotions, and appointments to newly created jobs. Also it seems that there is no consistency across the organizational structure. Is the employer required to disclose the basis for these decisions? What are they required to disclose?
