My sister and I found out that we are direct heirs to an estate in Texas. They sent us papers where they wanted us give them power of attorney and pay for any criminal prosecution that might result. There are 320 acres of undeveloped land in New Mexico that we filed an affidavit of heirship for. We got an attorney in the same county in Texas and he told us that they do not have to tell us all that is in the estate. Another sister and brother evidently have already received something because my brother became rich and my sister bought over a $100,000 worth of stuff in just one year and is taking vacations every 6 weeks or so. We have done a lot of research and found that the estate has never been distributed but we do not know where it is. Should we file for the land we know is in New Mexico or file in Texas. And can a judge get them to tell us the truth about what is in there. We have established that there are only about 10 direct heirs, although in the papers they sent us the listed about 25 people, many we found out are not direct heirs.

They sent us papers

Who is this "they"?

where they wanted us give them power of attorney and pay for any criminal prosecution that might result.

This sounds absolutely preposterously fishy. What possible criminal prosecution could result from your inheritance?
