Hi , am working in US in L1 Visa status I have to apply for extension in sept 2014 . But last year i was convicted for shoplifting item worth 150 USD ,I was arrested with charges of petty theft .
charged with petty theft and did not had any jail time but had to pay fine and it is conviction for immigration.

Now when i apply for visa extension it is CIMT , but falls under petty offence exception based on review from attroney .

Does consulate grants petty offence exception ? what could be chances of getting extension ?

Have you seen any successful case with CIMT and getting visa outside US ?

I suggest you speak with an immigration attorney.

The time to come here for help was when you were caught shoplifting not now! This is water over the dam now. Had you came here then we would have advised you talk to your Lawyer about plea options like ACD or Diversion which usually RESULT IN NO CRIMINAL CONVICTION ON YOUR RECORD! Now its too late. As advised above talk to an Attorney to see what options are available that might allow you to extend your VISA
