My landlord is alsom my mother-in-law's boyfriend. There's no lease, there's no lease agreement, in fact, the house is horrible.
My wife and I are moving out, and he thinks that he's entitled to a 30 day notice (we told him that we were moving out on Feb 1, it was actually a 27 day notice from when we told him), he told us that we had to be out by Jan. 31. He's been calling my wife and threatening to take her to court, and that he wants a full month's rent, so he can buy paint. We've paid him weekly for the past 3 years. Never missing a week, or if we did, he knew, and we payed him back accordingly.
He also helped us pay for a washer, which we paid him back, and had receipts in a calander, like he wanted. He threw out the calander, and has made it look like we never did pay him.
He's threatening my wife with legal action.
Am I right to think that he's not going to get anything accomplished, due to a lack of proof of a lease, and a lack of evidence that this money was never paid to him?
