I just received my invoice for the final month on my 1-yr lease (apartment).
The amount has increased. I have been paying the same amount for 11 months on this lease, and suddenly I am being charged more for the 12th month.
I did not agree to or sign anything regarding this increase in rent. I did receive a letter referring to the new increase, but I naturally assumed it was talking about renewing for another year, not the current lease. It arrived in the same envelope as the renewal lease papers, so I did not distinguish the two things. The fact that the amount of increase is the same as if I had renewed for another year also makes it seem sneaky.
The amount in question is small, but this sets a precedent of distrust here. I am referring to other issues I might bring up in a future post.
I do NOT plan to renew. I just wish to stay for the remainder of my current lease.
What do I do? Thanks in advance.
