I signed a one year lease in Maury County/ Tennessee in April 2008 with my girlfriend at the time. In June the relationship ended and somehow she got the landlord to remove her name from the lease and she is now nowhere to be found. I could not pay the $895/month lease payment by myself and they are now taking me to court. When I told them to call my ex girlfriend and get her to pay half of it they said she has been removed from the lease and I am 100% responsible.
Can they do that and stick me with the bill? I never signed or agreed to letting her name be removed from the lease. I do have a copy of the original lease with both our names on it.
I just don't see how they alter a "Binding Contract" without all parties involved agreeing and signing a new lease (in which I have not done).
