Security Deposit landlord seeking compensation for repairs after deposit was returned

My 2 companion dogs and I moved out of my apartment in January 2013. I have received my deposit back. Now, a month or so later, the landlord says he needs to replace the carpet due to pet urine stains and is charging me for it. Can he do that after we've already completed the final walk through and they've returned my deposit?
