Security Deposit Landlord will not return security deposit

my former landlord will not return my security deposit. I am on Section 8 therefore have little income at the moment, what can I do to resolve this?

Has your landlord provided you with information as to why your security deposit has not been returned? For example, did you move out owing rent or leaving damages above normal wear and tear?

Section 8, you say, okay.

Did you pay the security deposit, or did a government or other agency pay it for you?

What was the amount of the security deposit?

If the government or another agency paid the deposit, you aren't entitled to the deposit.

The entity paying the deposit gets it.

However, most agencies don't actually pay deposits, they simply guarantee them.

So, please elaborate further about the deposit - who paid it, how much, how was it paid, etc????
