I own two horses that are stabled in a boarding facility. My horse trainer entered into an agreement with the property owners to stable up to 30 horses there, and that the standard things like arena maintenance, water, stall cleaning, feeding and electricity would be provided.
They also started that they were building a barn for those of us who prefer our horses to be stabled inside during very hot/rainy weather.
We have been having trouble with all of these things. Cleaning is inadequate, as the owners have only one employee who also does all the work in the nursery that they own next door. He's expected to clean over 30 stalls in his spare time. Naturally he does not do a good job and the boarders wind up doing the work themselves -- work we are paying the owners to do.
The barn has not been built, and will not be. Electricity has never been provided.
The owners have also stopped maintaining the arenas, forcing the trainer to step up and do it. They have also told us that they do not have adequate water to allow horses to be hosed down after being ridden in hot weather. However, they are building more stalls and planning to bring more horses in.
My trainer has already had six clients leave due to the failure of the owners to provide adequate services. This is a huge loss of income for her. Also, now that she is being forced to maintain the arenas and provide fly control, this is also costing her money.
Unfortunately, she has only a VERBAL contract with these people. What are her options? We have been trying to find another place to move, but it's v. difficult to find a facility that can take 30 horses. The only other option is that we all go and find our own new places to board our horses, which will effectively destroy my trainer's business.
Any options?
