Late Fee

On December 3 i dropped my rent in the drop box. Today I recieved a notice on my door from the rental office stating that I never paid rent and that I need to pay it by 10 am on wednesday. I also recieved a letter saying that my water bill is due and if I do not pay it then my December rent will not be accepted. I believe that is why they said that they did not recieve my rent. Can that legally charge me a late fee and go to court?

Yes; if the matter of you paying the rent isn't cleared up.

Go talk to them today about this.

Did you pay the rent by check so you have a record of doing so?

Depending on where you live, the concern is that if the water is turned off due to nonpayment there's a risk during cold weather that pipes could freeze and burst.
