My son is 16 and have been working part time at my local gym for a year now in the kids room. My gym has been purchased by a large fitness company and he have been told that he needs to be 18 to be employeed by them, but he has been working there part time for a year now. They refused to interview him for his old postion. Is this legal ? Is he entitled to some kind of serverence pay ? Do they need to inform him in writing that he has been fired or layed off ? I feel that he has been treated unfairly and very unprofessional.

No, not unless he has a bona fide, legally enforceable contract or binding policy that guarantees him serverance, which is quite unlikely.

Do they need to inform him in writing that he has been fired or layed off ? No.
