Layoff Question

I was laid off in April along with 10 other people. They told us various reasons, one was the economy and the other for someone of us was because we made too much.

This morning I see that my old position is up for rehire. I thought in the case of a layoff they had to call you back before rehiring for your old position?

Unless you had a bona fide employment contract or were working under a CBA in which first rehire rights were guaranteed, it's not true. There is no wage and hour law that requires the employer offer you first shot.

this is all i could find for ca, does your layoff letter state you would have return to work rights

Never received a layoff letter, I was just told verbally by the managing partner.
