Lease Termination Question

Hello:

I have lived with roommates in the same apartment for a year. As of July, the lease was terminated. Apparently, the apartment complex bills for utilities two months behind (so July's utilities were billed Sept. 1). The old roommates are sending threatening and harassing e-mails about being sent to collections if I don't pay. When I lived there, utilities were paid as a part of rent. Once I signed off the lease, I didn't think I owed anymore money. I haven't heard from the utility billing company or the apartment complex and don't think I should have to pay anymore money.

What is the best advice?

Thanks!

If the lease agreement you signed with the apartment complex states that the utility bills are retroactive, then you do owe them money. If it doesn't then, ask to see the period that they are billing you in September to see if there is substance to the claim.
