I've detected some unauthorized access from a world-famous company in California to my web servers. It all started with my PC being infected with some spyware, which then has intercepted my communication with my web servers. The intercepted data were then used to launch the unauthorized web access from the California IP addresses that all belong to this company.

The access pattern seemed to be human driven instead of being automated, as judged by the multiple IP addresses used and the various pattern of time launching the unauthorized access. I have detailed web access logs that account for all the unauthorized access. BTW, the unauthorized access is still on-going, since it has started about two weeks back.

Can I bring legal action against this company on these unauthorized accesses? Or can I bring this issue to the press for publication of my complaint?

While it may seem that the company is responsible, you should first send written notice and preservation letters to preserve the evidence. To begin, I don't know what your damages are and, unless there are, you won't have a windfall. Second, you might do better in settlement if there is one - they wouldn't want publicity and you wouldn't have to deal with a lawsuit. Third, you have no idea whether or not someone from this company is actually doing the hacking or whether a third party has hacked them and, in turn, is using their breached terminals to hack you.

Thank you very much for the advice.
Funny thing is that, this company itself is one of the top internet security sw/service provider. I guess even the doctors get sick too :)
