My jurisdiction is: California

We adopted our daughter 11 years ago. Within a year, we were having troubles with her strong-willed spirit and attitude. As she got older, she became more rebellious and our relationship with her pretty much deteriorated. About 3 months ago, we allowed our daughter who is 17 years old now to go live with her grandma in sacramento. Well, within 2 to 3 months, she wasn't too happy at grandma's either and became a burden to grandma with her attidude (grandma is also raising her other 3 grandkids + 1 of her own who is also 17.) During Thanksgiving, our daughter went to her aunt's house who also lives in sacramento. Well, she decided she didn't want to go back to grandma's and instead stayed with her aunt. We protested because the aunt, we felt, had poor judgment and made bad decisions in her life and therefore will not control nor make good decisions for our daughter. The aunt also has two kids. Anyways, the aunt and our daughter argued about why she can't have legal guardianship of our daughter. We are pretty much fed up with our daughter at this point and is considering allowing her aunt to be guardian. However, our concern was our legal and financial liability with respect to our daughter doing something stupid and we would still be liable for it.

Would our legal and financial obligations be released if there were a contract signed between us and the aunt releasing us of our liabilities? Would it stand up in court? Thank you for your time and consideration of our questions.
