Hello I was wondering if anyone could help me out by answering my question...I of course owe money to a credit card company and they have contacted my old roomates' father to get a hold of me. I have never put him down as a reference or his telephone number that I don't even have myself, I have told them once already to take his name and number off the list that they had no right to call him in the first place because he is a non relative and shouldn't have his information anyways. I believe I am within my rights but I was just told that they have begun calling him again and I am extremely outraged and don't need someone not related or close to me knowing my business, is this legal if I told them to take him off the list and not contact him anymore once already, if not what can I do and if so still what can I do? Thanks I appreciate the help!

They are not allowed to share information about what you owe and to whom you owe it to anyone relative or not. There are attorney fees and statutory damages of as much as $1000 per violation if they continue to do what they are doing. Send them a "Cease and Desist" letter that says to stop calling YOU or ANYONE ELSE about your debt. They will then be limited to writing letters.
