Two years ago, I was a dancer in a gentleman's club. One of my customers bought me a car. He signed the title and gave it to me, but the title was never notarized (I wasn't aware that it needed to be) & also I have a paper that states that I received the car as a form of payment for working for his company (which was his "safe way" of doing things so he could save his own butt incase his wife found out he was visiting the club and spending money on dancers). This man is also my landlord, whom I have a rental agreement with (again a safe thing for him)-he has never made me pay bills for living in this house. A few weeks ago, his wife found out and served him divorce papers and now he all of a sudden wants money-I don't have any to give him so he said if I slept with him, we would be even, and I told him I wasn't willing to do that. A few days ago, I walked out of work to find that my car was missing. I called the guy and asked him if he knew anything and he said he didn't, so I filed a stolen car report with the local police. Today, I find out that last time I had the car serviced, the guy had the dealership make an extra key, and he had the car picked up while I was working. On top of that, I found out that he had a tracking device installed in the car without my knowledge and he's been watching my every move since last September. Is this at all legal? Or can I get my car back and press charges?

Did you speak to the police? It would seem to be your first step. How did you find out about the tracking devices? While your state may require notarization of the signature on the title, I'm not sure if the lack of a notarization is fatal in your ownership of the car. It may be only evidentiary, to ensure the validity of the signature. Whose name was the car registered under and who was paying the insurance policy?

What state are you in?
