Lending money to estate for funeral costs

My mother in law passed away in March and left several debts to be paid off. The biggest one was her funeral cost and the funeral cost of my father in law the previous year. She named my husband and brother in law as the executors but my brother in law has taken the reins. As funeral costs needed to be paid, they asked me to put it on my line of credit with a promise of being paid back. Now I am being told I will not be paid back in full or even close to it. Is this correct or does the estate owe me the money?

You probably got screwed.
If you paid $10,000, and the estate only had $100, no way you would ever have been repaid.
This, however, is a US based law discussion site.
You require a Canadian site, or the services of a Canadian solicitor.

In the US, relatives of the deceased aren't responsible for their debts upon their demise.
The estate might be, but as indicated, if the estate is broke, the debt dies upon the death of the deceased.
