I've heard horror stories on how long it can take to evict a tenant. Is there a maximum amount of time a judge will give a tenant to vacate? The tenant is on disability and this concerns me. She is not paying rent and the house is up for sale. There is no lease. People are telling me that the judge could give her 6 months or more to vacate. We have petitioned the court already and the court date is in January. Any opinions on what the absolute maximum amount of time could possibly be that this could drag on?

In New York? A considerable amount of time, depending on the judge and how seriously the tenant plays the disability card.

New York (especially New York City) can be a challenging place to evict someone.
