I received a letter from an attorney's firm yesterday giving me 30 days to reply to them about a $25,000 debt to Chase. A year and half ago, I hired a professional debt settlement firm to deal with this account and two others for me, paying them quite a large payment each month. They have resolved one account, but now I don't have any funds built in my account to try and settle this huge account. The law firm hasn't taken action yet, and the debt settlement firm is supposedly going to try and set up a payment plan with them but, from your experience, should I hope that's possible at this point? I'm afraid there will be lien on our house or something. It seems from reading in your forum that most of these debt collectors don't deal at this point. What do you think?

Write that you dispute the amount and refer them to the debt settlement firm with whatever account information you still have....often these "debts" are sold and re-sold with no one every checking if they are valid. It is up to the consumer to stay viligent and dispute the claim and keep copies of their correspondence disputing the claim.
