My jurisdiction is: Texas

I let one of my really good friends open a credit card in my name for $800 and i co-signed for a different account for another $800. At first he paid $50 dollars here and there but now he wont answer and im in college and cant afford $1300 dollars on my own. Would i have a good claim?

A good claim for what?

He probably owes you the outstanding credit balances, assuming you can prove that he incurred all the charges.

How do you plan to collect from him?

A claim to take him to court. It isnt like a normal credit card its for rims so he is supposed to be paying off he balance each month but he isnt. ive contacted him several times and he never answers. I have been told that i cant really collect from him unless i take him to court.

You certainly have a claim. He owes you money and isn't paying.

I don't know what "it isn't like a normal credit card its for rims" means. As far as I'm aware, what he used it for is irrelevant to the question of whether he owes you money.

Whoever told you you can't collect unless you take him to court is probably on the right track. Even then it's not a sure thing. You might get a judgment against him, but he might have nothing to pay it with.
