My ex husband awarded my home and land to me in my divorce decree back in 2000. He defaulted on a credit card. The credit card company has placed a lien against my previous home and land I still live on. I have already sold the mobile home to someone else who now cannot get a clear title because of this lien which was placed last year. I sold the home in 2007. Because the deed was in both of our names we both signed off on the mobile home when I sold it. Do I need to hire an attorney to have this lien removed from the previous home and my land? Can you please help me in this matter or give me some advice. Thank you.

You might not need an attorney, but it will certainly help.

Not being familiar with the specifics of creditors liens in TX, I can offer only general suggestions.

If your husband has no interest in the land you currently live on, the credit card company is not entitled to a lien on your that property. You can apply to the land title office (or whatever you have) to have the lien removed on those grounds.

The lien on the land you no longer own isn't your problem. But the current owner can apply to have the lien removed, on the same grounds.
