My jurisdiction is: TX United States

My ex husband awarded my home and land to me in my divorce decree back in 2000. He defaulted on a credit card. The credit card company has placed a lien against my previous home and land I still live on. I have already sold the mobile home to someone else who now cannot get a clear title because of this lien which was placed last year. I sold the home in 2007. Because the deed was in both of our names we both signed off on the mobile home when I sold it. Do I need to hire an attorney to have this lien removed from the previous home and my land? Can you please help me in this matter or give me some advice. Thank you.

An attorney will not just get the lien removed. A lien is an instrument which ensures that a creditor gets paid out of the proceeds of the security - your house. Your ex has a half-interest in the home. What you need is to have the debt paid off in order to remove the lien, either by paying it yourself and suing your spouse or by starting having an attorney start the fire by sending your ex-husband a lawyer's letter spelling out the basic facts.
