My friend is a member at a popular gym that is in many surrounding cities. I think he takes things from other peoples lockers like, $, cell phones, and watches. he has been doing this for a while. he sells stuff on ebay and craiglist. he has to scan id to get in every gym so there is a record of him being there. she was actually working out and the employees told him he had to leave, they had print out of his id picture and had many notes on it, they wanted his id to gym and took his licences plate # as he left.
what might happen? what can they prove? would they have took fingerprints? how far would authorities dig for evidence?

The authorities usually dig until they ensnare a culprit.

Unless you and "he" are the same person, I'd tell him to stop it.

If you are "he", I'm telling you to stop it.

You would be wise to say nothing more about this, unless you want to assist the authorities in arresting "him"!

By the way, they might even try to get "her", even though she's only working out!

The cops aren't as dumb as people think they are.

Crooks aren't as smart as they think they are, either!

This kind of thing is serious and depending on how much the items total could be a felony. The authorities will dig deep enough to find out who the thief is.

yea thats what i was thinking my friend seems to be screwed.

how could they track down all the stuff?
dont they need to catch the stuff on him or something?

Well, I'm betting that "he" pawned or sold the stuff.

They'll run across it, because "he" didn't steal the junk for his use, did "he"?

I don't think the junk is at his house!

Selling on ebay and craigslist does not make the items disappear. Seller information is easily accessed on ebay, and any police agency that wants to take the time to do it can shop around and look at who is selling things locally.
You still can be caught by trying to get rid of items on the Internet. Doing it that way just adds an extra step to what the police have to do. Identifying the suspect is the hard part- so if they are already on to you it is just a matter of time.
