Losing job; not a vet or married to one

Recently, many co workers and myself working government contract work have been told our jobs are going GS but without vet preference (being wounded vets or married to wounded vets) we will not qualify for these GS positions which means we will eventually be unemployed.

First, it is impt to understand CPOL and USAJOBS will not even electronically select our resumes for consideration without vet preference. If by some miracle our resume is selected and we make it to the top 5 for interviewing we were informed that regardless of our experience and despite currently being in these positions as contractors the position will go to the highest qualified vet or spouse of the wounded vet. Thus, either way without vet preference we will never receive a GS position and when our contract is up we are without jobs.

Thus, despite my raises, praises, and bonuses for the past 4 years because Im not a vet or married to one I didnt qualify for the GS position at my duty station which doesnt seem fair and seems discrimitory in every capacity to me since I am already doing the job as a contractor and doing it exceptional well verifiable by my bonuses and yearly performance appraisals.

To rub salt in the wound, I was directed to train, supervise, and assign cases to the new GS hired veteran.

Where is the fairness and logic in this? I support our vets but in all due fairness I deserve and have earned the GS position after all my hard work doing my part to help our Soldiers, Vets and their families for the past 4 years.

Where are my rights and options? Isnt there such thing as an EEO reverse discrimation issue here for not being married to a disabled person (vet) or the disabled (vet) themself leading to disqualification of job on this basis when otherwise qualified?

I would like a GS position and a grandfather claus in place for situations like what I am experiencing.

People in my situation should be able to be hired by name or be directly hired under a grandfather claus. I know a few veterans who had been working in my capacity that qualifed under the vet preference criteria now hired as GS doing the same job because they were direct hires or hired by name which verifys it can be done and is done often.

Any ideas on how I can fight and win this battle/war? I want a GS position that i have worked hard for and deserve. I also want to make change in CPOL/USAJOBS as it rejects resumes if you are not a vet or preference, and change hiring practices for jobs that start off contract then go GS by adding a grandfather claus. I am open to any suggestions on how to approach resolution of this issue which seems to be a growing issue across the country.

You may think this to be unfair, but it isn't. This is legal and has been so since shortly after the civil war.

If you are dissatisfied with federal hiring practices communicate your dissatisfaction to your congressperson, senators, or the president. Your elected officials are the ones to whom you should voice your concerns.

I greatly appreciate your reply and feedback and many of us are in the process of addressing our concerns with our congressmen, senators, and with the president. This is a global issue not just within the US. Again, nothing against our vets but civilians should not be put of jobs just because they arent vets. Thank you once again.
