Losing my car in Mexico!

I freind tells me that if I want to get rid of my car, I can just drive it to mexico and leave it there and have someone take it away, and the insurance company will be responsible. Will that work?

Doubtful. be prepared for your insurer to say, "Sorry!"

If you return to the US and file a claim you will likely be commiting a crime.

You're friend sounds like an idiot. He's asking or telling you to commit insurrance fraud. With friends like that you don't need enemies. You would have to have a stolen vehicle report of some kind from Mexico and have your car insured for driving in Mexico and I believe with a rider(add on) for theft. Don't do it...just sell your car here. If you are behind on payments, let them repo.
