My son who is at college went to a friends off campus and smoked some pot. He left his car at his friends and walked back to his dorm because he did'nt want to drive under the infulence. When he got back to the Dorm, he said one of the RAs gave him a funny look in the hall and before he got to his room he was stopped by the campus police. They told him they knew he had been smoking pot and that he had more on his persons. My son cooperated fully and gave him the little (less than 1 ounce) of pot he had in his pocket.
Now he faces fines of up to $600.00 as well as the possibility of it affecting his ability to get into pharmacey school. Was it legal for the officer to stop him? Can he try to get the court to drop the charges? He has never had any legal problems before and I dont want this to affect the rest of his life!

Decriminalization: The state of maine has decriminalized marijuana to some degree. Typically, decriminalization means no prison time or criminal record for first-time possession of a small amount for personal consumption. The conduct is treated like a minor traffic violation. If not they will prob. offer him some sort of first time offenders program so this can stay off his record. You could and should always hire an attorney so he/she can work their magic in court. Good luck.
