I know that there is not much hope to the situation, but here it is. I'm 17 and i'm afraid I don't turn 18 until July after I graduate. My boyfriend is in the Army and is getting deployed to Korea for a 2 year term, but my parents wont sign the papers for us the get married. I know that it sounds like we don't need to be married but to apply for the papers for me to join him in August we need to be married before March and he is unable to visit the US until next Christmas (when I would be legally allowed to marry him on my own).
So i guess the question is :
Is there a way for a minor to get married with only a judges approval and not parentalwithin good reason?

Thanks

No.

Give up the idea.

You're still a child at 17 and have no business getting married so young when the odds guarantee you a divorce in a few years if it lasts even that long.

thank you for the reply, but I'm afraid I didn't ask for your personal opinion on the statistics of marriage, I asked for legal possibilities of getting what I need done.

There are no loopholes in the law.

If there's a LEGAL way to accomplish something, to call it a LOOPHOLE is both a misnomer and misguided.

Code Section 750 ILCS 5/203, 5/208
Minimum Legal Age With Parental Consent Male: 16 or Female: 16

Minimum Legal Age Without Parental Consent Male: 18 or Female: 18

Comment: If the parents refuse consent for minors (between age 16 to 17) to marry, judicial consent can be sought with a finding that the minor party (or parties) are capable of marriage.

So, you find a judge in your county, convince the judge you're ready for marriage, a court order will be issued. If the order is issued, you can then be married.

Illinois: If you are 16 or 17 years of age, you will have to provide a copy of your birth certificate along with some other sort of identification showing your date of birth.

You will also need to have the sworn consent from each parent,
each legal guardian
or a judge - in person - before the county clerk at the time of application.

Your parents or guardians will need to provide identification like a driver's license, state identification card, Illinois Department of Public Aid card, or passport.

If your parent is deceased, you will need to show a death certificate or proof of guardianship, or a court order waiving consent.

A legal guardian will also need to show a certified copy of the guardianship papers.

If you are under sixteen (16) years of age, you cannot get married in Illinois.

Good luck.

Illinois is not one of those states with a provision for a court order in lieu of parental consent. Either you have parental consent or you do not marry until you are 18.

Forget the marriage part. If your husband is going to Korea.... Guess what.. Your NOT... The military only allows 3,000 what they call command-sponsored slots. So the chances of you being allowed to go are none to slim. Since they keep these slot for families with children. Plus.... his 2 year stay will turn into a 3 year stay. You DON'T want to go there anyway..... Not a very good place..
