Hello everyone ... long time viewer, first time poster.
My fiance and I recently purchased our first home, and wanted to remove the carpet and put in some laminate wood flooring.
We did some research, and ended up purchasing both our materials and installation at the same place.
The people that installed the flooring are employed by the actual laminate store (not subcontractors).
The work was completed, and has been successfully paid for in full.
The actual person who did the installing called my phone the other day, stating his intent to file a lien because he had not been paid for his work by the laminate store. His words were along the lines of "I know you've paid the store, but they haven't paid me." I contacted the head office of the store, who informed me that they've processed our payment, and our contract was concluded successfully, and that they've paid their installers.
My question, really, is: does the actual installer (being an employee of this company) have any legal ground to stand on? It's my understanding that since my contract is with his employers (and they aren't the ones filing the lien) that he can't go "around" them, so to speak, and place a lien.
I get the feeling this person is trying to take advantage of a first time homeowner ... any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!
