I have a restaurant that I contracted electricians to do the wiring. They left and I asked another company to finish the work. They stated the prior electrical work was illegal and in my fear and haste, I agreed to let them finish/correct the job. There was a dispute over fees and they walked off the job leaving numerous supplies in the building. Can they file a mechanic's lien on the owner of the buidling (we lease) and not us? And, how do we dispute the lien or at least get it out of the owner's name, if possible?

Q: Can they file a mechanic's lien on the owner of the buidling (we lease) and not us?

A: Did the owner of the building authorize the work?

The owner was aware of the work when we were renovating the building but he did not authorize or in any other way contact the company who did the work. Not sure if this answers, the owner of the building just let us do what we needed without being a part of it.
