We missed an appointment (first and only time) with my sons psychiatrist and he charged us $100 for a missed appointment, which was fine until I was told in no uncertain terms that he would not see my son or even fill a prescription for him until the bill was paid. He would not even let me make payments. I was left with no medication for my son. I decided then and there (I had not been happy with his services for some time) that we would find a new doctor. He never contacted me again about my son's health or wellfare He is now threatening legal action for non payment of a missed appointment fee.
My question is this: Is it ethical and legal to refuse treatment for one missed appointment (I was willing to make payments) and can he hold me legally responsible for a missed appointment fee?

A: It sounds like there's a long-standing problem here. If you feel he did anything unethical, file a complaint with the bureaucrats who regulate doctors in your state.
