Hello,
In 2003 I was taken to the emergency room. I was not alert at the time so did not fill out any paper work. Had friends there that gave information. Never got a bill for the services, parents called the hospital giving my insurance information and the claim was sent to insurance. Insurance denied the claim because they said I didn't exist on their policy.
So, in 2009 I get a call from a debt collector saying that i owe this bill (roughly 600).
Here is the issue: we got our medical records from the hospital. The EMS run sheet has my correct name, birthday, ssn, address, and phone number. However, the information on the hospital medical sheets has my last name spelled incorrectly, my birthday is wrong, address is wrong. The insurance company said that the reason they denied the claim was because the SSN and birthday didn't match up---which we now realize is because my birthday was entered incorrectly.
Is there anything that I can do about this debt to fight it. I would have paid my fair share of the bill if it was sent correctly to the insurance company. I don't feel as though I should have to pay the entire bill because of the hospital's error.
Hope someone can help!
