I am currently taking care of a 17 year old female. Her mother kicked her out and I took her in. She is in need of immediate medical attention (this is not life threatening) and while she was in her mothers care, this so called mother refused to get her checked out. I have NOlegal responsibility for her, it's purely a moral decision.
I would like to obtain Medical Power of Attorney so I can get her issues taken care of. I would like to know what paperwork I need to fill out and do I need to get this notarized?
I have heard that at the age of 16 in the health care field any child is considered an adult and does not need parental consent to go to a health care clinic however, she has NO medical insurance and this has been our problem for some time. I am hopeful that I can get her on my private insurance plan through work.
Please advise. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
