My husband was flown by air ambulance to the hospital where his cardiologist is located about 3 hours from our home town. Medicare did not approve part of the air miles (reason stated - that he could have received services at a closer location). We have filed an Appeal with Medicare on their decission but the air ambulance company wants us to go ahead an start making payments on the $4500 balance before we hear from our Appeal. We can only afford to pay $50 per month but they said that is not enough that we would have to pay $100 per month until our Appeal is finalized. Can they dictate to us what we have to pay every month? Also, from what they are telling me unless Medicare pays them more on the claim, we will still be responsible for the balance. If they accept Medicare Assignment can they balance bill?
