Our Veterans club has two social members (non veterans) who constantly run down our organization and officers within the club to other members. This is causing dissension within the membership and there are a number of members who will not renew their membership due to the actions of these individuals. Can we amend our by-laws to include the use of disciplinary measures for those who profess behavior that is detrimental to the business of the club, the employes and admistrative staff?
Thank you,

Thank you,
Steve

Look to your constitution and bylaws themselves. They probably provide the power to amend them and a procedure whereby it can be done.

I can imagine that actually implementing this change might be fraught with difficulty. What does "detrimental to the business of the club" mean? Who decides? Etc.

Thanks for the reply. Revenue from the bar suffers as members leave the club because of what is being said. As far as who decides, we would rely on any officer of the club to bring these situations to the board of directors. I am unsure if the members of a private clubs can vote to enforce any behavior that is not in keeping with the clubs by-laws. I just don't know where that fine line of freedom of speech begins and can it be , for lack of a better word, controlled, within a private club.
Thank you
Steve
