I got caught shoplifting $10 items. Someone took my picture,Id, phone number and they didn't call the police. Now I have this letter from Michael Ira Assen asking for $75, If I don't pay they say they may make further effort to enforce their rights under this law. This can be bad for my immigration and I don't know the consequences of the letter, If I should pay.If I do am I admitting a crime?Immigration (citizenship), criminal , civil law question.

Stop stealing, stop taking things that belong to others, obey the law.....

For the purposes of immigration, the standard of "moral turpitude" is used. You can read more here: http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/86942.pdf

In many instances if you pay the civil demand, the vendor will take no further action. That choice is up to you.

You definitely might want to pay the civil demand & hope no further action is taken.
