Michigan law, lost wallet

If you find a lost wallet and keep the money and toss the wallet, is that a crime? I called 2 police stations, 1 said yes, the other said no, Please Help

Are you asking because you stole money out of a lost wallet and threw it away?

If so, you're a double-jerk.

If someone did it to you, they're a double-jerk.

Especially since USPS will deliver wallets dropped into their mailboxes.

I should know... I've had two of mine returned to me Granted, they were sans cash, but hey, wallet is better than no wallet.

It was not me

I didn't do it, but I have a stupid friend that did. The police are telling him is going to be in all this trouble. He doesn't have the wallet, he said he threw it away.
