Today (December 14, 2013), I was allegedly shoplifting at a store.

I am 15, and they allege I attempted to steal a ring valued at $24.

They stopped me after I walked out the store and took me to the back room.

They said no police would be involved if my parents came and they did.

They said it would not go on my record and I just need to sign warning notices banning me from the store.

I also have to pay a $200 fine.

They didn't say anything about going to court, but did say I will receive a letter with the fine fees.

Will I have to go to court, or will it be over after I pay the fine? Will this affect me getting into college and finding a good job later?

Technically, YOU won't pay that fine.

Your parents will pay it.

Pay the fine, if you wish.

It'll make things easier.

Recognize, this is probably the one do over, so be smart!!!!

A cheap, broken trinket worth $5.00, ends up costing you possibly $200.

Not smart, is it????

THINK.....

I agree that your parents might want to go ahead & pay the fine - it most likely will make things easier in that there is less of a chance of them pursuing further action.

The retailer has opted for a Civil claim rather than to prosecute you for theft. They can change their minds depending on state. Therefore its in "your" best interest this Civil fine be paid as there can be serious long-term consequences for not paying. The above post is correct this is your one do over don't blow it!
