Here are the facts:
Denton County in case any one is an expert in a particular area of Texas.

One thirteen year old and one fourteen year old male were caught in Walmart shoplifting items with a combined amount around fifty dollars. I have read that if it is fifty or more dollars that it would be considered a Class B Misdemeanor, however, I am unaware if they will be charged separately for only the value of what they were trying to individually shoplift. Will they both be held responsible for the total amount or will they be charged separately?

Second question, what is the likely outcome of this offense? The thirteen year old will be fourteen in February and has no prior criminal history. The fourteen year old has had minor possession of tobacco on school property, but I am unaware of whether or not it is on his record.

Third, is anyone aware of the impact this has at school? I do know that the criminal history of any student is shared with the school district, and those convicted of felonies are not permitted on school grounds. Could a misdemeanor charge like this affect extracurricular activities such as band, theater, or sports?

Any other comments or input would be helpful as well. Thanks

They will likely both be charged with full amount as they worked together

Depend son exact charge and any priors they might have as you mention. You should consult an Attorney to see what options are available to each. Hopefully Diversion or ACD is an option
